A&D Antipolo Eats: Vieux Chalet Swiss Restaurant

The main agenda for our trip to Antipolo was to eat at Vieux Chalet Swiss Restaurant. BOS has been wanting to eat here for the longest time. Funny story though..  when I told him that I wanted to try Vieux Chalet, he said "Tagal na kaya kita niyaya dyan!". Haha! Mommy brain, sorry naman! After our brunch at Eggs for Breakfast, we went to Pinto Museum to kill time before going to Vieux Chalet for an early dinner.

I am so glad that there's Waze nowadays, it was easier to navigate to anywhere. But it was still challenge to get there because there was some road works and we need to pass another way going there, but we still arrived just in time for sunset. I also called them on our way, making sure that we'll have a table when we arrive.
Loved the quirky yet homey and cozy vibe.
If you are looking to try a new restaurant and want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, Vieux Chalet should be in your list.

Vieux Chalet is a one of Antipolo's best kept secret. Vieux Chalet is owned by the Hassig Family and it first opened in 1984. It is our first time to try Swiss food so I was very excited. I've also checked blogs for review and recommendation but I've noticed the menu is different. I just asked the Restaurant Manager Rico, who was our server for recommendations. Rico was so nice and accommodating, he made us feel at home.
For starters, we had the Swiss Raclette. I'm new to the whole cheese game. It was my first time to try raclette. I love everything except for the pickled onions.
The kids had the 5-Cheese Grilled Pizza. Generous amounts of cheese, just the way we like it. I love it!!! The kids removed the arugula and alfalfa when they ate it though.
BOS and I are meat lovers! I ordered the Pork Fillet Mignon. It was tender and juicy. I finished everything in my plate! Hindi ako gutom pero naubos ko haha!
BOS had the Beef Tenderloin, cooked medium rare. BOS gives it a thumbs up!

I wish I had room for dessert, that Ricotta Cheesecake on the menu sounds yummy! We went home with happy tummies. I hope we'll have another chance to visit Vieux Chalet again in the future. Too many restaurants to try, so little time! Thank you BOS for always letting me know which restaurants to try even when I'm not always listening haha!

A&D Antipolo Eats: Eggs for Breakfast

Another weekend, another road trip! After Y's exam week, I needed my much deserved break. Ako talaga? Haha! We all needed a quick trip to enjoy ourselves, revisit a favorite and discover new restaurants and feed our soul. BOS has been wanting to go back to Antipolo to try Eggs for Breakfast and Vieux Chalet (next post!) and so we did last March.

We were choosing between Rustic Mornings and Eggs for Breakfast. Since we were all hangry na and Eggs for Breakfast was nearer, we had brunch here.
Eggs for Breakfast is located at Velada Estate, #21 Don Juan Street, Villa Cecilia Subdivision Sumulong Highway, Barangay Mambugan, Lower Antipolo, Antipolo, Rizal. Just Waze it! :)
Very instagrammable place!
The place looks like it's a part of a compound of events places, parang a guest house turned into a restaurant. It's a small cozy restaurant which can seat probably around 40? Before arriving at the cafe, I checked for reviews online and suggestions on what to order. I also always asked what's the recommended dish/es whenever we try new restaurants, so here's what we ordered:
BOS ordered Lemonade, Php40.
While I had their Flat White Php130. They served good coffee ha..

BOS had the One Pan Breakfast, Php470, which probably was the most sulit dish we ordered that morning. We all ate from Papa's Plate!
The kids shared this plate of Buttermilk Pancakes with Eggs and Bacon, Php280. It was just okay. Kids didn't finish them. The pancake was a bit bland. They like the fast food kind more.
I had the Eggs Benedict, Php330. It was good but nothing special. I really wanted to like it but it was just okay for me.

Verdict? Food was just okay. Price point is a bit high. Maybe I would have enjoyed our food if it wasn't so hot inside. Order the One Pan Breakfast if you are going to try Eggs for Breakfast, the others weren't as memorable.

A&D's Rizal Adventure: Tipulo Restaurant, Pinto Art Museum, and Crescent Moon Cafe

Three weekends ago, my little family went on a much-awaited trip to Antipolo! BOS, the resident art enthusiast in the family, has been wanting to visit Pinto Art Museum for the longest time! 2 years in the making na ata! And finally one Sunday!

We left the house around 10AM with no plans where to have lunch. BOS and I argued pa on our way because he wanted to do this trip and he had no itinerary, no idea where to have lunch and I had to look for a place on the way. Lahat ng gusto namin kainan, nalamapasan na namin. Nakakainis diba? Heehee! And so after about 2 hours on the road, we ended up at Tipulo, a restaurant that serves modern Filipino cuisine.
Tipulo Restaurant is located inside the compound of First Pacific Leadership Academy. Lush greens, mini forest, and quiet surroundings made our lunch very much enjoyable.
We arrived just before the crowd poured in. Nice ambience. No aircon. Fresh air with Filipino food is great combination, don't you think?
Nilgang Tadyang ng Baka (Php525) - fork tender beef short ribs in rich beef stock with cabbage, corn, green beans, and sweet potatoes. This was good, my kids loved it! It's not greasy with just the right amount of vegetables and beef.
Binagoongan (Php235) - crispy pork belly tossed in homemade bagoong with tomatoes, friend eggplant, ampalaya and long yard beans. This was ok. It was like pinakbet with a side of lechon kawali.
Aligue Rice (Php275) - I didn't taste any aligue, lacks flavor. But we finished it anyways. Haha!
Mango Shake (Php95) for Achi

For more information on Tipulo, check out their Facebook page, Tipulo - Modern Filipino Cuisine.
You can also check their menu here.

After a filling albeit mediocre lunch, we headed our way to Pinto Art Museum. Pinto Art Museum houses modern and contemporary art. It has over 300 modern paintings, sculptures, and art installations by various local artists.
Entrance Fees:

PHP150 for regular ticket
PHP120 for senior citizens and PWD with valid IDs
PHP 75 for children and students with proper school IDs

It was an art appreciation day with the kids! After paying for entrance fees, you get a map to the museum and the menu to Cafe Tan-aw.

There are different galleries inside the museum. BOS is the art enthusiast, he was like in a candy land! As for me and the kids, we're there to appreciate. I don't really remember the names of the artists. I just took photos, lots of photos for memory keeping. :)
Left: "Mama, can I ride this horse?"
Right: Going up or down?
Pool looks inviting. It was so hot I wanted to jump into the pool!
Museum of Indigenous Art
This is one of my favorite galleries.
After checking out the galleries, I got tired walking and chasing around R. Plus it was so hot, I needed a moment to rest and we ended up here.
Pinto Cafe. I wanted to stay and try what the cafe offers but the kids were becoming restless and we wanted to finish all the galleries.
Love this chair!
Silly kids being silly! Imitating the painting at the back. Heehee!
Thank you Pinto for that wonderful afternoon!

We made our last stop at Crescent Moon Cafe to buy some suman. Too bad the cafe was already closed but we were able to take home frozen suman! Yay!
I love their suman! We've had it for merienda, breakfast, for my birthday and for dessert!

I had a great time with my family. It was a different kind of family day than the usual malls we go to on Sundays. If you are into art, why not spend one weekend in Rizal, visit Pinto and make sure to plan where you eat. I want to go back to Rizal to eat at the places where we planned to eat but didn't get to. I'm looking at you, BOS! Heehee!
Oh and before I forget, there's an "entrance fee" to the Grand Heights where Pinto Art Museum is.
